Science   and   Technology   (S&T)   are   key   drivers   to   development   and   play   a   critical   role   in   bringing   about   socio-economic transformation.   S&T   developments   have   been   altering   the way   people   live,   connect,   communicate   and   transact, while   having profound     effects     on     economic     advances,     improvements     in     health     systems,     education     and     infrastructure.     Thus, advancements in this field have proved their potential in various sectors of developments in both urban and rural landscapes. S&T   interventions   are   of   vital   importance   in   improving   agriculture,   which   is   the   backbone   of   the   rural   economy,   through improvement    in    crop    yields.   After    agriculture,    fisheries    is    another    major    occupation    of    rural    people    that    also    requires innovative technologies to improve production. Recent   technological   advances   like   Information   and   Communication   Technology   (ICT)   has   made   significant   inroads   into   rural areas   and   improved   teledensity,   connectivity   and   information   flow   into   rural   areas,   which   will   help   in   economic   growth   and social   justice,   improvement   in   the   standard   of   living   by   providing   adequate   and   quality   social   services   and   minimum   basic needs and amenities. Thus,   S&T   are   being   increasingly   recognised   as   the   foundation   for   rural   development   as   well   as   the   best   hope   for   a   better future for rural life, as they have much to offer in finding suitable solutions for many of the challenges that rural people face. Considering   this,   KSTA   in   association   with   Sri   Gavisiddeshwara   Arts,   Science   &   Commerce   College,   Koppal      is   organizing KSTA   Conference   on "Role   of   Science   and Technology   in   Rural   Development"   during      February   23-24,   2018   (Friday   &   Saturday) in   Koppal   to   create   an   awareness   on   S&T   advancements   in   rural   development   by   organising   distinguished   lectures   from eminent scientists and renowned technocrats.
